Big Sky has been selected to host this year’s Canadian Men’s Senior Championships the week of September 4 – 8!
Since opening in 1994, Big Sky has been fortunate to host several BCGA Provincial Championships, PNGA Championships of the Pacific Northwest, but this will be the first National Championship and we are excited to showcase our local treasure to the 156 competitors and their families from across Canada and beyond.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Senior men’s competition is open to amateur golfers who have reached the age of 55 by September 5th, 2023.
- Super-Senior men’s competition is open to amateur golfers who have reached the age of 65 by September 5th, 2023.
- All competitors require a Handicap Index of 8.0 or less for Senior players and 12.0 or less for Super-Senior players on the event registration deadline.
The Canadian Men’s Senior Championship will feature a maximum of 156 players. If the field is under-subscribed at the closing deadline, all eligible players will be accepted. If the field is over-subscribed at the closing deadline, the selection committee will select the field’s non-exempt players. Members of their respected provincial teams are exempt from the Handicap Index limit.
Each Provincial Golf Association is allocated a quota of applications into their respective national championship events. Each Provincial Golf Association will decide on how their quota will be filled and these players must complete this application, then submit it within 48 hours following completion of their provincial championship.

Other player exemptions include past champions of the past 10 years; top 10 finishers from the 2022 Canadian Men’s Senior Championship; 2022 Canadian Men’s Super Senior Champion; 2022 R&A Men’s Senior Amateur Champion; 2022 U.S. Men’s Senior Amateur Champion; Host Club Exemption.
We are very proud to announce that we will have two longstanding Big Sky members represented in the field this September – congratulations to Lance Lundy and Steve Protz!
Lance won this year’s 2023 British Columbia Men’s Super-Senior Championship on July 27th in Williams Lake at the Williams Lake Golf & Tennis Club. Lance finished the event in 219 strokes over 54 holes, winning the Super-Senior Championship in a playoff and finishing T6 overall in the Men’s Senior Championships. Lance has competed in many National Championships over the course of his playing career and will be a favourite in both the Senior and Super-Senior divisions.
Steve will be competing in his first Canadian Men’s Senior Amateur Championship on his home course as Steve has been selected to represent Big Sky with our Host Club Exemption.
VOLUNTEERING:
An event like this takes a large team to pull together and we are reaching out to members and locals who wish to volunteer their time throughout the week. Volunteer positions will include some of the following:
- Timekeepers (monitoring pace of play)
- Forecaddies / Ball Spotters
- Player Services / Registration
- Live Scoring
- Walking Scorers (final two rounds)

Please note: The entire course, practice facility & restaurant will be closed to all members and public during the Canadian Men’s Senior Championships. Our facilities will be closed Monday September 4th through Friday September 8th, with the teesheet reopening at 3pm on Friday September 8th.
